Next up in the series we welcome Nishanti (@nishanti91) from @enrootldn . A local legend pushing feel good, fresh feel, Indian vegan street food, music and vibes. Since starting up in 2016 Nish, Harshil and Tom have been making their presence known in Brixton, Peckham, Clapham and surrounding areas whilst also feeding the thousands at festivals such as Brainchild, We Out Here, Field Day, Boomtown and more.
Nish is dedicated to all things local; identifying as a South Londoner before anything else. A South London Indian – South London born & raised. Nish has travelled across the world exploring music and food, two passions that bridge culture and offer access the most fruitful life experiences: “Music, like food knows no borders and my love for music stems from discovery”.
Growing up in London introduced Nish to sound system culture with Reggae and Dub contributing to Nish’s musical output today. Check out his weekly show on @brixtonradiolive called Food for Thought (Every Friday 2-4pm) to talk all things roots, culture, food and music. A selector before a DJ who enjoys bringing people together with great music. Expect to hear Hip-Hop, Jazz, Afro, Dub, and World Music or let’s just say anything that has a heartbeat! Music for the heart and food for the mind or vice versa is a must for Nish!
I myself, NiShanti, am dedicated to all things local and preach South London as my identity before anything else. South London born & raised with roots in India via East Africa. I’ve travelled across the world and music, as well as food, has been my biggest passion to break cultural barriers and access the best of life experiences in this magical world. Fluent in both French and Spanish has helped communication but music, like food, knows no borders and my love for music stems from discovery. The desire to know more, the love for creation and the beauty and importance of all things sound. Growing up in London brought me many sound system experiences and Reggae, Roots & Dub were big influences as a live experience. I grew up on hip hop thanks to my brother which developed my consciousness and my trips to Zimbabwe as a child (my mother’s birthplace) where my uncles had a band meant music was always a part of me!
Again festivals were a great introduction to understanding music and attending and then working at them brought a great sense of home with musicians. I am blessed to have a lot of musical friends so while I don’t play anything in particular I have always been able to appreciate and value good music. I am super grateful to have the depth of musical knowledge I have and with people, travels and food come music.
Now with my very own show on Brixton Radio called Food for Thought (Every Friday 2-4pm) where we talk South London, roots, culture, food and music I have further had the chance to dedicate time for my music passion and been honoured to invite guests on my show that have inspired met. I would call myself a Selector before a DJ but love bringing people together with great music and I personally embody my business in its entirety and thus create a space for musical selections that strive for unity, love, health and positivity from any cultural background. I play hip hop, jazz, afro, dub, spiritual, conscious and world sounds and when asked about music I just say I like to play anything that is organic or something with a heartbeat. Music for the heart and food for the mind or vice versa is a must!
